(Health Empowerment Research Action Team)2025-09-102025-09-102006https://www.lenus.ie/handle/10147/646114The aim of this study was to research people's experience of homelessness, their experience of services that cater for homeless people in Galway city, and to make suggestions for changes to those services. The research was undertaken in a unique way. The study was entirely led by a group of people who have experienced homeles§ness and who have used the services in Galway city. The HEART team undertook the study with their peers. Empathy, Respect and Understanding were at the core of their approach to the research. The findings of this study have given an insight into the causes and consequences of homelessness. The direct experiences of services from the perspective of people who have experienced homelessness have informed this research. The study provided an opportunity for people who have experienced homelessness to talk about their experiences and the effects on their lives. The, experiences and consequences of being homelessness were overwhelming.
