In 2017, Kilkenny was below average for hospital admission rate for mental and behaviour disorders due to alcohol (61.5 per 100,000 population, National 83.7) and above average for alcoholic liver disease (42.0 per 100,000, National 36.5). In 2017, Kilkenny was below average for psychiatric in-patient rates for alcohol disorders for first admissions (2.0 per 100,000 population, National 9.2) and for all admissions ( 18.1 per 100,000, National 24.1). In 2017, Kilkenny was average for alcohol treatment rate at 142.1 per 100,000 (National 153.2). In January 2019, Kilkenny ranked 16th for the number of liquor licenses with 283.2 per 100,000 (National 273.1).
