dc.descriptionResearch was carried out in the Emergency Department (ED) of two hospitals (Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar and Sligo General Hospital) to identify the number of older people presenting with a fall or blackout. Everyone over 65 attending ED between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday were asked to take part in the research. Data were collected prospectively over a four week period in Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar (MRHM) and a two week period in Sligo General Hospital (SGH). Once consent has been given, participants were administered a questionnaire (see Appendix A). The sequence of questions is outlined in the flowchart below.en
