The research study is an independent review of the operation of the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018. The findings of this report are informed by the Unplanned Pregnancy and Abortion Care (UnPAC) study commissioned by the HSE to get an in depth understanding of service users’ experiences; a review of health providers’ perspectives of termination of pregnancy service implementation, and a public consultation process, both of which were commissioned by the Department of Health; the Chair’s meetings with service users and providers, and by the preliminary observations of an ongoing research project entitled “Conscientious Objection after Repeal: Abortion, Law and Ethics” (CORALE), which is being led by researchers at Trinity College Dublin and funded by the Irish Research Council. This is a report of an independent Review commissioned by the Department of Health pursuant to the obligation in section 7 of the Act that obliges the Minister shall, not later than three years after the commencement of this section, to carry out a review of the operation of the Act.en_US
