Main Points 1. Pregnancy is regarded as an underlying medical condition which increases a person's risk of developing severe illness. Specific risk factors include maternal age, obesity, non-white ethnicity, pre-existing medical conditions and pregnancy specific disorders such as gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia. 2. Pregnancy does not increase susceptibility to SARS-COV-2 but can worsen the clinical course of the disease compared to non-pregnant patients of the same age. 3. Pregnant people with COVID-19 have higher rates of ICU admission but are not at increased risk of death from COVID-19. 4. SARS-COV-2 infection at the time of birth can lead to higher rates of foetal death, pre-term birth, preeclampsia and emergency Caesarean section. There were no additional negative neonatal outcomes seen other than those associated with pre-term birth. Risk of transmission of the disease to neonates is low.en_US
