In 2017, Clare had below average hospital admission rates for mental and behaviour disorders due to alcohol (46.1 per 100,000 population, National 83.7) and below average for alcoholic liver disease (14.6 per 100,000, National 36.5). In 2017, Clare was below average for Psychiatric in-patient rates for alcohol disorders for first admissions (3.98 per 100,000 population, National 9.2) and average for all admissions (26.9 per 100,000, National 24.1). In 2017, Clare had below average alcohol treatment rates at 76.3 per 100,000 population (National 153.2). In January 2019, Clare ranked 4th for the number of liquor licenses with 379.58 per 100,000 (National 279.28). In 2017, the rate of alcohol related offences in Clare for drink driving were average at 146.8 per 100,000 population and also average for disorderly conduct at 432.8 per 100,000, whereas liquor licensing offences were the highest nationally at 76.3 per 100,000 population compared to the National rates (Drink driving 153.8 per 100,000, disorderly conduct 528.4 and liquor licensing offences 17.3 respectively).en_US
