This report presents the fmdings of a survey conducted by Irish Marketing Surveys on behalf of the Department of Health among the Irish population aged 15 years and over into their attitudes towards AIDS. This survey follows a benchmark study conducted in 1989 and comparisons where possible are shown. The sample size was 1507 adults, based on a nationally representative sample of people aged over 15 years. Interviewing was conducted at 167 sampling points throughout the Republic of Ireland. The survey was carried out on a face-la-face basis in the respondents' own home. The sample was designed to deliberately underrepresent the older age groups (those aged 45 and over) and correspondingly overweight the younger age groups. However the data was re-weighted at the analysis stage to reflect the true age representation within the population. Fieldwork was conducted from 18th-30th March 1994 by interviewers who are fully trained and experienced in the area of market research. Quality controls of the highest standards are imposed at all levels of the research, including a 10% quality control check of completed interviews.en_GB
