dc.description | The public health service in Ireland is administered through eight. regional health boards. The hospitals that provide acute hospital services are categorised as health board hospitals and voluntary hospitals. The health boards manage health board hospitals while voluntary hospitals are owned and operated by religious orders or incorporated by charter and work under lay boards of governors. Both types of hospitals are funded by the State. The following table gives the number of hospitals, the average number of in-patient beds available and the number of discharges by type of hospital. Long stay units and psychiatric hospitals are not included in these figures. Data on private health care are not readily available. | en_GB |
