| dc.description | As Minister for Children, I am delighted to contribute to the second Annual Report of the Office of the Minister for Children (OMC). During 2007, I worked with the Director General and staff of the OMC on many important developments aimed at improving the lives of children and young people. and ensunng that their voices are heard. My attendance at Cabinet allowed me to ensure that issues affecting children were at the heart of Government decision-making. The Twenty-eighth Amendment to the Constitution Bill 2007 was published in February 2007, containing proposals to amend the Constitution In respect of children. In line with a commitment In the Programme for Government to deepen consensus on the 2007 Bill, an Olreachtas Joint Committee on the Constitutional Amendment on Children was established to examine and make recommendations on the Bill. This committee held its first meeting in December 2007, began the process of inviting written submissions on the proposed amendment to the Constitution and engaged legal advisors to assist in its deliberations. | en |
