dc.description1995 was a year of great change and development for The Rehab Group. A year of growth and innovation that was exceptional by any standards. In Ireland, the political world finally discovered disability and, through the Commission for the Status of People with Disabilities, is beginning to tackle the real issues of equality in our society. The Rehab Group continues to respond to these challenges in a dynamic way. In Scotland and England, 1995 saw massive development in our services, expanding our horizons and adding to our reputation as a leading provider of training, employment and commercial services that promote equality. The Rehab Group is now involved in activities in 98 locations throughout Ireland and the UK, provides training for 8,000 people and employs 1,800, 20% of whom are people with disabilities. In Ireland, where the Group is a major employer (1,100), the National Training & Development Institute (NTDI) ended the year with 1,500 trainees in vocational training services and 591 placements for the year to employment, further training and education. In its first full year in operation, Gandon Enterprises Ltd created 270 jobs - 160 of them for people with disabilities and RehabCare established community care, social support and tra ining services for 208 people with disabilities. It has been a great privilege to work with the board of the organisation during a period of great change and challenge as we have reorganised ourselves to effectively manage the diverse organisation that The Rehab Group has become. Rehab Holdings Ltd under the excellent chairmanship of Mr John Hussey was formed to oversee the business and financial aspects of the Group and Rehab Council Ltd, which is chaired with great flair by Col Jim Seward, oversees programmes and development.en
