|dc.description||The publication of this report, Valuing Community Playgroups: lessons for practice ond policy, represents a milestone for the many people who have contributed to and participated in the Community Playgroup Initiative. It gives great pleasure to the Katharine Howard Foundation (KHF) and the Health Service Executive, South East Area (formerly known as the South Eastern Health Board SEHB) to welcome this evaluation report. The Community Playgroup Initiative (CPI) was a three year demonstration project established by the KHF in partnership with the SEHB. The overall aim of the project was to provide support and extra funding to five selected community playgroups in the South East in order to enhance the quality of their provision. The initiative was built on a core belief in the value of good community support systems for the child and his/ her family. Both the KHF and the SEHB value the role that community playgroups have as a means of family support, providing early childhood care and education at low cost through a community service model.||en|
