| dc.description | Results. More than half of the women in the study, 1,048, attended one clinic in London and a quarter, 537 attend an advisory service in Liverpool. A relatively small number went to other clinics in London and in Birmingham. The age group of the women whose pregnancies were terminated in the study are compared with the OPCS reports for 1983, 1982 and 1981 in Table I, and the marital status with the OPCS marital status report, 1981, in Table 2. The age distribution and marital status distribution of the study sample agrees with that of the age and marital status distribution of the Irish women reported by the OPCS, so the sample would appear to be a representative one. The month of interview prior to termination is shown in Table 3. Many of the women in the study were referred by agencies in Ireland. Area of Residence The county of residence in Ireland is shown in Table 4. Out of the 2,032 forms received, 1,914 provided all the data required for analysis by age group, 15-40 years, county, marital status and whether resident in Dublin (Dublin County Borough and Dun Laoghaire Borough) . The estimated total number of terminations for 1983 has been calculated as 3,700 (2,796 for the first nine months)i therefore, the form received represent approximately 55% of the estimated total. As the age and marital status correlation between the study sample and the OPCS report is good, the number of expected terminations in each age and marital status group has been calculated for the estimated total termination for 1983. The calculated rates of terminations of pregnancy for single and every married women resident in Dublin are shown in Table 5 for first and all terminations. | en |
