dc.description	A census of population was carried out on the night of 21st of April 1991. The increase in the population of Ireland which had continued from 1961 to 1986 has : been halted and reversed - the population fell by approx. 0.5 % during the 5 year period 1986 to 1991. This fall was due to the net outward migration of 136,500 persons since 1986 which exceeded the natural increase in population (excess of births over deaths) by some 17,242. This report and the accompanying tables show the net changes which have occurred in the Eastern Health Board (EHB) area between 1986 and 1991 at both community care area level and at OED level, and also gives an age profile of the community care areas in 1991. It should be noted that the age classification is based on year of birth rather than on actual age. These are preliminary figures based on data compiled by the census enumerators during fieldwork and are subject to revision. The figures are not for publication and are supplied by the Central Statistics Office only for internal use by the Eastern Health Board.	en
