| dc.description | This publication aims to set out a clear and concise picture of the burden of chronic disease and known risk factors along with the impact of those risk factors on our health. Chapter 1 summarises the rationale for addressing the prevention of chronic disease. Chapter 2 gives a picture of the population of Ireland in terms of demographic variables and life expectancy. Chapters 3, 4 and 5 outline aspects of the burden of the four major chronic diseases in Ireland. Chapters 6 and 7 summarise the current state of and recent trends in risk factors for these chronic diseases in adults and children in Ireland. Finally, chapter 8 identifies the impact of these risk factors, clarifying their contribution to chronic disease. | en_GB |
