The year under review may well prove to be one of the most significant in the history of NRB. A new Board was appointed by the Minister for Health for a·four year term and began its work in the autumn. I would Ilike to take this opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to the outgoing Board members for their contribution to the work of NRB. A new Chief Executive was appointed in the person of Dr A P O'Reilly who has our assurance of· support and best wishes for a successful service with NRB. Another development in1989 of major significance for NRB was the initiation of the Strategic Planning process. This is an exercise of profound importance for NRB, involving every aspect of its activity. It should result, through clear prioritisation of objectives and targeting of resources. in an increase in NRB's effectiveness as the,State body promoting the interests and rights of people with disabilities.en_GB
