dc.descriptionThe National Rehabilitation Board was established by the Minister for Health in December 1967, under the Health Corporate Bodies act, 1961. Board members are appointed by the Minister for Health and give their services on a voluntary basis. Three members of the Board are drawn from the staff on the nomination of their colleagues for appointment by the Minister. The principal functions and services of the National Rehabilition Board are as follows: • Advising the Minister for Hea lth on all aspects of the rehabilita tion of disabled persons. • Co-ordinating applications to the Commission of the European Community for assistance from the European Social Fund towards schemes of vocational training of disabled persons and a llocating and administering all funds received. • Co-ordinating the work of the statutory and non-statutory agencies engaged in rehabilition. • Providing a range of specia lised services on behalf of the Minister for Health, for the assessment, counselling, vocational guidance, training and placement of disabled persons. • Providing a National Audiology Service. • Improving Public awareness of the special needs of disabled persons and the problems faced by them. • Promoting ease of access for disabled persons, particularly persons with limited mobility, to all public premises and facilities.en_GB
