During 1984 approximately 4,000.women giving an address. in the Republic of Ireland had their pregnancies terminated in England. The termination. rates were highest in Dublin and Dun Laoghaire County Boroughs, as high or higher than occurred in five cities of similar size in England. Termination rates in England for women resident in the Republic were higher than they were for women resident in Northern Ireland over the age of 20. The increase in the, number of terminations in 1984 compared with 1983 is due to a big increase in second or subsequent terminations.en_GB
