The National Advisory Committee on Drugs (NACD) commissioned the Centre for Drug Misuse Research at the University of Glasgow to examine the methods and data sources available to estimate the prevalence of problem opiate and cocaine use. This report has three main parts; the first discusses the various existing methodologies for estimating the prevalence of problem drug use and evaluates their usefulness and the feasibility of their application in an Irish context. The second part outlines the data sources available in Ireland and details which data sources lend themselves to which methodologies. A third section provides more detail on the application of the recommended methods.en_GB
