dc.description | The Health Insurance Authority (HIA) is an independent regulator for the private health insurance (PHI) market in Ireland. Its functions include registering private health insurers under the Health Insurance Acts, regulating the health insurance market and advising the Minister for Health and Children. The HIA has conducted a range of surveys on a biannual basis since 2003, on both the consumer and employer PHI market. This research has been used to assess attitudes towards Private Health Insurance, knowledge of the market and the behaviour of private health insurance consumers. The 2009 research was intended to improve knowledge and understanding of the market and identify market trends among consumers and employers on health insurance in the Irish market. In detail, the research aimed to provide an update on the following: • A review of consumer attitudes to health insurance in recessionary times, including motivations for purchasing or ceasing health insurance. • An insight into other elements of the market from a consumer perspective, such as switching, changing plan etc. • An update on the employer group scheme market segment and possible insights into future trends. • An update of key trends among consumers | en_GB |
