dc.description | The demographic profile of the population in our Board's area is changing with increasing numbers of people living into old age. Whilst most people will have an active and healthy old age, there are a sizeable minority of old persons who are likely to require support and care, as they grow older. Research indicates that many older persons are in need of some care and some in need of significant levels of care up to and including residential care. It is important that ageing is not perceived as an illness and that the vast majority of older persons live healthy and fulfilled lives independent of the health services, with assistance from Family, friends and neighbours. Their experiences, values and knowledge should be recognised and incorporated into all services planned for and with older persons in mind. | en_GB |
