dc.description | September 2001 the Northern Area Health Board (NAHB) Health Promotion Service was established. A priority for this service is to work in partnership with other agencies and communities using a multi-sectoral approach. This way of working is in line with the National Health Strategy (Dept. of Health and Children 2001). In the summer of 2002 the NAHB Health Promotion Service commissioned a Health Promotion Needs Assessment in Darndale and Belcamp. The aim of this needs assessment was to provide strategic direction for the development of a community health promotion programme for the population. Particular emphasis was to be on heart health. The study was funded by resources allocated to the NAHB via the Cardiovascular Health Strategy (Dept. of Health and Children, 1999). This Health Promotion needs assessment consisted of a survey of a sample of households using interviewer administered questionnaires. A total of 314 of 1200 households in the area participated, 194 households in Darndale (62%) and ll8 households in Belcamp (38%). This represented an overall 78% response rate. Data was collected on a total of 1364 individuals living within these 314 households. | en_GB |
