Much debate and research has informed this work. The definitions of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and Clinical Midwife Specialist (CMS) were agreed together with the pathways for confirmation into these posts. Many of you will have already been involved with such confirmations. The definitions of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) and Advanced Midwife Practitioner (AMP) are almost complete and will be circulated in the near future. The main differences between the CNS/CMS and the ANP/AMP are the level of autonomy and research expected. Educational preparation for ANP/AMP will be to Masters level.en_GB
