The National Health Strategy launched in 1994, outlined the need to have a policy on women's health that was based on a comprehensive view of women and the issues that effect their health. Following the introduction of the National Health Strategy. and the reference to women's health needs, an expert Advisory Group to review women's health issues was set up by the Chief Executive Officer of the North Eastern Health Board (NEHB), Mr Donal 0 Shea. The Advisory Group consisted of a number of health professionals from the North Eastern region along with the participation of a consumer representative. In June, 1995 the Minister for Health. Mr. Michael Noonan introduced a discussion document regarding the development of a policy for women's health. This was welcomed by the Health Board and was further used by the Advisory Group in association with the National Women's Council of Ireland throughout the consultation process.en_GB
