| dc.description | The Health Authorities Act, 1960, became operative on the 1st July, 1960. As mentioned in my report for the year 1959, one of the primary objects of this Act was to integrate the health services more closely by breaking down the statutory barriers between the mental health services and the other health services. The Act provided for the establishment in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford of unified health authorities responsible for the administration of all health services in their respective areas. As the district mental hospitals in Dublin formerly provided a service for the administrative county of Wicklow, provision was made under the Act that this arrangement would be continued and that three members of the Wicklow County Council will act on the Dublin Health Authority when it is considering matters relating to mental health. For the remainder of the country the general duty of providing mental treatment is no longer vested in a mental hospital authority as a separate legal entity but in the county council as health authority | en_GB |
