| dc.description | Certain members of the Council felt that the views of the Council should be made available to the Minister for Health on the subject of contraception upon which there was wide public discussion. In its discussion on contraception, the Council confined itself to the medical aspects involved. Reference was had to the terms of the resolution which was passed by the United Nations Conference for Human Rights in Teheran in 1968 which was:- " That the Conference considers that couples have a basic human right to decide freely and responsibly on the number and spacing of their children and the right to adequate education and information in this respect". · Particular concern was expressed about the position of women who can.not for medical reasons risk becoming pregnant again and for whom oral contraceptives represent a grave hazard to their health. Such women could not legally obtain other types of contraceptives under the law of the land and, after a wide ranging discussion, the Council resolved to draw the Minister for Health's attention to the fact that there exists, for certain married women in this country, a need for contraception on health grounds | en_GB |
