dc.descriptionThe Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) was established on 1st January 1999 as an independent agency to protect consumers’ health by ensuring that food consumed, distributed, marketed or produced in the State meets the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. From 5th July 1999, the Authority assumed responsibility for the enforcement of food safety legislation, which is delivered by a number of agencies via service contracts with the Authority. This document has been developed to provide the agencies with guidance on the use of enforcement powers under the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Act, 1998.en
