Abstract
It is a special pleasure to be able to offer you in the warmest terms my congratulations and renewed encouragement on the occasion of the Annual General Meeting, which marks the completion of another year in the life of the Mater Misericordiae Hospital. These words are intended not just for the members of the Board, but for all whose co-operation continues to assure the well-being of the hospital: the Sisters of Mercy, the medical and nursing staff, the administrators, the support staff. I am grateful to the Minister for Health and his Department for the measure of public funding which, given these years of financial stringency, is indicative of sincere goodwill. I applaud the initiatives of all who participate in the endeavour to secure private funding; I congratulate them on their success and I thank the benefactors. Archbishop Desmond Connell.
