I'm a dietitian/nutritionist and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant who has worked in maternal, infant and young child feeding, particularly in breastfeeding, for over 25 years. Through BEST Services I provide services related to breastfeeding education, support and training nationally and internationally. My main interest is the competence of health workers in breastfeeding supportive practices.
Some of my current activities include National Co-ordinator of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative in Ireland, training of health workers in infant and young child feeding for WHO and UNICEF as well as in Ireland, development of standards of practice, and assisting countries to revitalise their BFHI activities.
My research has included client participation in assessment of health worker performance, Cochrane reviews and implementing quality improvement programmes.
