Description:
In keeping with the goals of its Strategic Plan, Combat Poverty launched the Building Healthy Communities (BHC) programme in 2005 to help address health inequalities in disadvantaged areas by mobilising community responses, exploring the links between health and poverty and devising measures based on those insights. A number of projects were supported in developing creative ways of addressing local health issues, improving people’s health and well-being and identifying and tackling the underlying causes of ill-health. To highlight the learning from this community health activity and consider the links between poverty and the ill health that people experience, the work of three projects in different geographic communities is profiled in this publication.
