| Description: | The screening of newborn children for metabolic disorders is one of the unsung successes of the
health service in Ireland. The screening programme enables potentially devastating diseases to be
detected at a very early stage and allow treatment to be started immediately at a stage before any
significant damage has been done. This review was commissioned by the C.E.O.’s of the Health Boards and the Chief Medical Officer
of the Department of Health to ensure that the excellent work undertaken in Ireland continues to
keep pace with the best international practice. |
