- Description:
- I am pleased to introduce Ireland's programme for the EU Presidency in the field of public health. This extensive programme reflects the great diversity and increasing intensity of co-ordination and co-operation in health matters between Member States of the European Union. The growth of the importance of health in the European political agenda is widely acknowledged. Advancements in travel. trade and technology, have made the world smaller and this has underscored the inter-reliance among Member States to protect public health. exchange information. share best practice and combat health threats. EU co-operation in health matters - at political, pol icy making and expert levels - is now an every-day occurance It is also the case that Non-Governmental Organisations across the EU work closely together in the area of health.
