In step with the statutory provisions putting the administration and financing of these services on a more rational basis. there have been a number of extensions in .the scope of. the services and other improvements, The Health Act of 1947 greatly extended the powers of the Minister and of the local authorities in the provision of the preventative services. This Act paved the way for a new approach in the attack of tuberculosis and on other infectious diseases by offering free diagnosis and treatment for these diseases to the whole community and generous cash allowances to sufferers needing therapy. Under it, also a new code designed to secure cleanliness in the handling and sale of food
