Description:
Depression is one of the major mental health problems in the world today. It has been estimated that approximately 6% of the population are likely to suffer a major depressive episode and despite the availability of effective antidepressant drugs, there is no known cure for the illness. The Affective Disorders Research Unit was established in 1985 to study some aspects of depression that are of particular interest to clinical and experimental researchers in Ireland. The results of the activities of the unit over the five year period of its existence are largely contained in 109 publications that may be found in international journals.
