It is not surprising that the Dental Council, which promotes high standards of professional conduct, expects the dental profession to act in their patients’ best interests at all times. To mitigate the risks, it is important to reassess the clinical decision process to ensure that patients are fully informed, knowledgeable and wholly involved in their care. This is achieved through a process of shared decisionmaking.
