Description:
When an officer is compelled to absent himself from duty owing to illness, the head of the department should be notified on the first day of absence. After two days continuous absence a medical certificate must be furnished on the third day at the latest. As a general rule further medical certificates must be furnished at weekly intervals so long as the absence continues. Notwithstanding the general rule that a medical certificate is not required for absence of one or two days owing to illness, if in any case an officer has been absent for periods amounting in all to seven days in any period of twelve months owing to illness not covered by medical certificates, the officer must submit a medical certificate in respect of any subsequent absence owing to illness during that year. (b) A Sunday, rest day, public or Board holiday falling within or immediately' following a period of sick leave counts as sick leave.
