- I was appointed to chair the Board of the BTSB in April 1999 and have been engaged on a very deep learning curve since then. The organisation is in the throes of enormous changes under the very able direction of the CEO and the National Medical Director. The BTSH has a dear mission to ensure the supply of blood and blood products to Irish patients and to ensure that the quality and safety of products are at the highest international standards. The BTSB has a complex network of relationships in achieving this important mission. It includes among its stakeholders its staff, the blood donors, the patients, their medical advisers, the Hospitals, the Department of Health and Children ,and the Irish Medicines Board. Patricia C.
