Description:
This report is the latest in a series documenting the patient movement activities of Irish psychiatric hospitals and units since 1965. The background to the development of the National Psychiatric Inpatient Reporting System on which these publications are based has been set out in detail in the earlier reports and will not be repeated here. The present report covering the years 1973 and 1974 follows closely the format used for 1971 and 1972. There are therefore three main sections relating to hospital activities. The first; entitled "Ireland", presents information for the country as a whole under the sub-headings of "admissions" and "leaving" (concerned with discharges and deaths). The second section "Health Board "Area", presents information on each of the eight Health Board areas in the country. The third, "Individual Hospitals", provides data on both local authority and private hospitals. Sections two and three have·the same sub-headings as the first, and all sections present data on variables such as age, sex and diagnosis, first in crude numbers and then in rates per 100,000 population. As in previous years the material presented in this report is limited to that felt to be of general interest. More detailed tabulations On the activities of individual hospitals and Health Boards are not included but are being presented to the Health Boards and hospitals concerned.
