Description:
This book is a shortened and amended version of a thesis entitled Horne Assistance - an examination of an Irish social service which was submitted to the National University of Ireland for the degree Master of Social Science. The study on which the thesis was based was sponsored by the Institute of Public Administration and supervised at University College Dublin. 'The requirements of a thesis dictated to a great extent the size and shape of the study. A brief description of the research methodology used is given in Appendix 1. This account differs from the thesis mainly in its exclusion of lengthy sections on poverty research in Britain and in Ireland, the historical development of Home Assistance and public assistance in other countries.
