Description:
The report of the Working Party on services for the elderly established by the Minister for Health outlined the objectives of public policy regarding the elderly in its report - "The Years Ahead - A Policy for the Elderly" as follows; 1. To maintain elderly people in dignity and independence in their own home. 2. To restore those elderly people who become ill or dependent to independence at home. 3. To encourage and support the care of the elderly in their own community by family, neighbours and voluntary bodies in every way possible 4. To provide a high quality of hospital and residential care for elderly people when they can no longer be maintained in dignity and independence at home.
