- Description:
- The year under review was another difficult and challenging year for the Blood Transfusion Service Board. It was also the year in which many solid foundations were laid, which will assist in redeveloping and refocusing blood transfusion services in Ireland. In all thal is taking place, it would be easy to overlook the simple fact that blood saves lives. Every week hundreds of patients in hospitals throughout Ireland are helped in their recovery by the ready availability of blood and blood products. The Board and the recipients of blood are indebted to the 100,000 donors who gave 160,000 units of blood during the year.
