As the aetiology, presentation and clinical course of cancers of the colon, rectosigmoid junction and rectum are quite similar, cancers of these three sites have been combined in this report. Anal cancers, which are comparatively rare, and constitute a separate entity both aetiologically and morphologically, are not included.
