The purpose of risk assessment and patient categorisation in relation to VHF is to provide efficient and timely management of patients, while affording maximum protection to the laboratory and clinical staff involved. The identification and roles of key players are set out in Appendix 1 and 2. Suspected VHF patients are assigned to one of two risk groups: At Risk and High Risk using the risk assessment process presented in this document.
