Health inequalities represent a major societal concern in Ireland as in other countries, both in themselves and as a reflection of deep-seated socioeconomic inequalities. These inequalities are to be seen across the range of available indicators, and mean that both overall life expectancy and healthy years of life differ markedly across socio-economic groups.
