- In late 1997, the Health Board Chief Executive Officers established a group to examine the future manpower requirements as regards the number of training posts in public health medicine/ number of specialist posts with the following in public health medicine terns of reference: Terms Of Reference The terms of reference for the manpower group are as follows: 1) To undertake a study of the current numbers and distribution of specialists in public health medicine, including Directors of Public Health, and doctors presently undergoing higher specialist training. 2) To make recommendations in relation to the numbers needed to undertake higher specialist training in public health having regard to posts that may arise in the future in: (a) Health Boards (b) Department of Health .: (c) University Academic Departments (d) National Cancer Registry (e) Health Research Board (f) Communicable Disease Surveillance Unit (g) Institute of Public Health (h) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (i) Major voluntary hospitals (0) Other potential developments in the health services while at the same time allowing for a meaningful competitive process to fill vacancies that arise.
