The objectives of SAHRU are as follows: Develop and maintain - in collaboration with public health bodies - a data base of key health and health service indicators by small area. A programme of analyses and mapping of these data to investigate the distribution of disease and/or service-related parameters by geographic area. Apply modem statistical methods to investigate the spatial distribution of disease prevalence or incidence of service usage in defined geographic units. Act as a technical resource for public health officials in responding to an unusual distribution or apparent excess of reported cases of disease. Disseminate analyses and maps in the form of a Technical Report series.
