Description: This study, carried out at the request of the Department of Health, investigated the feasibility of carrying out a major study of the factors influencing child development in Ireland today. Mainly through discussions with some of those involved in the area of child welfare services, varied information needs were established. The inconsistent and piecemeal set of policies affecting children were identified showing little appreciation for the aggregation of social and environmental influences acting upon the development of the whole child, and upon family welfare generally.
