Description: Every major health service is beset by increasing pressure on already scarce resources - and the Irish health service is no exception. Therefore, getting better value for money from existing and future resources must be a major priority for everybody involved in health care management. In addition to instituting proper organization, planning and control (described in other reports), management must make a continuing effort both to tackle problems that arise in providing an acceptable and economic service, and to identify other opportunities for improvement. However, the problems and opportunities that have to be tackled are frequently complex.
