| Description: | In March 2010, the leaked publication of two reports comprising investigations into the death of young people while in the care of the State, sparked a national debate both about the lack of transparency within the child welfare protection system in Ireland and the failure of the system to adequately meet the needs of the children it claims to serve. The publication of the report came on foot of a number of other reports which highlighted the ongoing gaps in child protection practices in Ireland and significant media coverage of a number of cases which evidenced the impact of the "broken" system on children and young people. |
