Description:
During the year, 882 adoption orders were made. Since the Adoption Act, 1952, came into operation on 1st January, 1953, a total of 33,817 adoption orders have been made up to 31st December, 1985.For the third year in succession there was a reduction in the number of adoption applications received by the Board. This reflects the continuing decline in the number of children being given up for adoption. Family adoptions, however, again accounted for a significant proportion of both applications received and adoption orders made in 1985. In 1985 the Board, in association with the Department of Health, initiated a statistical survey of adoption placements for which adoption orders were made. The Board is pleased to incorporate into this report, in the form of statistical tables, some of the information available in respect of orders made in 1985.
