| Description: | In May 1993, sixteen trainees began the first accredited Child Care Course
for Travellers in Ireland. The trainees were selected from over seventy
applicants. The successful candidates had some previous experience in
personal development training programmes. This pilot course was a joint
venture by Barnardo's and Horizon and accredited by the City and Guilds
Institute in London. Now, a year and a half later, all twelve of the trainees
who have completed the course received their City and Guilds qualification.
This book describes the background and aims of this unique project tries to
capture a sense of the experience through photographs and excerpts from the
participants' diaries and arrives at several important conclusions and
recommendations for the future. Above all, however, the book is a tribute to
the achievement of the Traveller trainees. |
